Idioms?

What are idioms? They are words which have another meaning, separate from the supposed meaning. Idioms might have a meaning beyond the literal and obvious; it is figurative.

Here are some of the most common idioms and their suggested meanings:

1. A Piece of Cake
- a task that is easy or simple to complete

2. Barking Up The Wrong Tree
- to make wrong or bad assumptions about something

3. Cry Over Spilled Milk
- one should not be worried over things that have already happened and cannot be changed

4. Down to Earth
- a person who is humble

5. Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining
- to be optimistic in any situation

6. Fit as a Fiddle
- to be very healthy

7. Go Out on a Limb
- putting oneself in a risky situation in order to help others

8. Hands Down
- something of certainty

9. In a Pickle
- being stuck in an undesirable situation

10. Put a Sock In It
- asking someone to be quiet
